Tesla vehicle production and deliveries

The chart above displays the quarterly deliveries by Tesla of Model S/X and Model 3/Y. In the first quarter of 2023, Tesla delivered total 422,875 vehicle units including 412,180 units of model 3/Y and 10,695 units of Model S/X. The deliveries of Model S/X declined 27% in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same quarter of the prior year.

Tesla’s vehicle production increased 44% in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same quarter of the prior year and the number of deliveries during the same period increased 36%.

Model S/X production reached 19,437 units in q1 2023 compared to 14,218 units in the same quarter of 2022. However, the deliveries of model S/X decline in the first quarter of 2023 to 10,695 units compared to 14,724 units in the same quarter of the prior year. Total deliveries by Tesla increased to 422,875 units in q1 2023 compared to 310,048 in the same quarter of the prior year.

According to a Tesla April press release, the company produced 305,407 vehicles and delivered 310,048 vehicles in the first quarter of 2022. The company generated $15,514 million from automobile sales in the first quarter of 2022, compared to $8,187 million in the same quarter of the previous year.

The total net revenues of the company for the first quarter of 2022 grew to $18.76 billion or $8.37 billion higher than the past year. In the first quarter of 2021, the total net revenues of the company remained $10.39 billion. Tesla’s total automobile revenues in 2022 Q1 reached $16.86 billion compared to $9 billion in the same period last year.

Tesla’s vehicle production in the third quarter of 2022 was 54% higher compared to the same quarter of the prior year. Model S/X production by Tesla grew 123% in Q3 2022 compared to Q3 2021. Model 3/Y production grew by 51% in Q3 2022 compared to Q3 2021.

During the third quarter of 2022, Tesla’s vehicle deliveries were 42% higher compared to the same quarter of the prior year. The company delivered 101% higher Model S/X vehicles in Q3 2022 compared to the third quarter of the prior year. Model 3/Y deliveries remained 40% higher in Q3 2022 compared to the same quarter of the prior year. 

In fiscal year 2022, Tesla produced total 1,369,611 vehicles and delivered total 1,313,851 vehicles.

In 2021, Tesla delivered total 936,222 vehicles (Tesla form 10k 2021) including 911,208 Model 3/Y and 24,964 Model S/X. During the fourth quarter of 2021 alone, the company delivered total 308,600 vehicles  including 296,850 Model 3/Y and 11,750 Model X/S.

Tesla delivered around 95,200 vehicles in q2 2019 a jump of around 51% from the previous quarter. In q1 2019, Tesla produced around 77,100 vehicles and delivered around  63,000. 

These figures rose to 87,048 and 95,200 respectively in q2. Deliveries of Model 3 grew by more than 50% from q1 to q2. Model S and X deliveries also grew significantly (around 45%) in q2 compared to previous quarter.

q1 2019 :

In q1 2019, Tesla delivered around 63,000 vehicles including 50,900 Model 3 and 12,100 Model S and X. Total deliveries were around 110% higher than q1 of 2018, however, 31% less than q4 of 2018. The company experienced significant growth in deliveries in Europe and China. However, it also saw several challenges arising for the first time which led to a large number of deliveries getting shifted to q2.

  More than 10,600 vehicles were in transit (delivery not complete) by the end of first quarter. Model 3 experienced healthy demand and sales in North America  where it remained the best selling mid-size premium sedan, outpacing its nearest competitor by around 60% in unit sales.

q2 2019 : 

 Delivery was higher than production in q2 2019. Total production was 87,048 units. Tesla achieved record deliveries of 95,200 vehicles (32,200 or nearly 51% higher than the previous quarter). Number of orders received in q2 were greater than deliveries and Tesla is entering q3 with a significant backlog.  The company has made significant progress streamlining its global logistics and delivery operations. It will be able to grow its production and deliveries in q3. Vehicles in transit at the end of q2 2019 were more than 7,400 compared to 10,600 at the end of q1. 

q3 2019:

The total deliveries by Tesla reached 97,000 units in the third quarter of 2019 compared to 95,200 during the previous quarter. Tesla produced 96,155 units in the third quarter of 2019 compared to 87,048 units during the previous quarter. Production and deliveries of automobiles by Tesla were higher than the previous two quarters during the third quarter of 2019.

q4 2019:

Tesla’s production and deliveries of vehicles remained the highest during the fourth quarter of 2019 compared to the previous three quarters of the fiscal. The electric automobile manufacturer produced 104,891 vehicle units and delivered 112,000 units in the fourth quarter of 2019. Tesla produced total 365,194 vehicle units and delivered total 367,200 units in the fourth quarter of 2019. Production of Model 3 in the fourth quarter of 2019 remained 86,958 units and deliveries reached 92,550 units in 2019. Model S/X production in the fourth quarter of 2019 remained 17,933 units and deliveries reached 19,450 units.
