Amazon Vs Google Cloud Revenue

The chart above displays the cloud revenues of google and Amazon from 2017 to 2022. Amazon (AWS) is the cloud leader engaged in a tough combat with another cloud leader Microsoft. Google is currently behind the other two leading players in the cloud industry, with an annual revenue from cloud services which is only a fraction of that of Amazon and Microsoft. In 2022, the search giant experienced close to 37% growth in its cloud revenue compared to the prior year. Amazon experienced more than 28% growth in its annual revenue from cloud services in the same period. However, Amazon is still a lot ahead of Google in terms of cloud revenues. google generated $26.3 billion from cloud services in 2022, while Amazon’s was slightly above $80 billion.

Amazon versus Google revenue from Cloud services.

While Amazon and Microsoft are currently leading in the cloud industry in terms of revenue, Google’s growth in the cloud segment has also been impressive. Compared to the two leaders, Google is still lagging in cloud revenue. However, the impressive growth it achieved in 2021, signals a stronger performance in the cloud segment in the years ahead.

While Google has more than doubled its revenue from the cloud services in just two-three years, its net revenue from clouds was still less than one third of what Amazon earned from cloud services in 2021.

Google generated $8.9 billion in 2019 from cloud services compared to $5.8 billion in 2018. On the other hand, Amazon’s revenue from cloud reached $35 billion in 2019 compared to $25.7 billion in 2018. 

In 2021, Amazon became the largest cloud seervices brand based on net revenue exceeding Microsoft’s cloud revenues. Until 2020, Microsoft had managed to remain ahead of Amazon in terms of cloud revenues. However, while Microsoft’s intelligent cloud revenues remained $60.08 billion in 2021, Amazon’s revenues from AWS reached $62.2 billion. Google, on the other hand, generated $19.206 billion from its cloud platform, which was less than one third of the other two largest cloud players.
