2021: While the net revenues of American Airlines increased in 2021 compared to the previous year, it has still not returned to the prepandemic level. The company generated $29,882 million in net revenues in 2021 compared to $17,337 million in 2020. However, its net revenues in 2019 were $45,768 million, which was the highest in its history. 

In 2021, the passenger revenues of the American Airlines Group were equal to $26,063 million compared to $14,518 million in 2020. Its cargo revenues were $1,314 million compared to $769 million in 2020.

The main business of American Airlines is the operation of a major network carrier, which provides scheduled air transportation for passengers and cargo. During 2018, the company launched new seasonal nonstop service to Budapest, Hungary and Prague, Czech Republic from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), to Venice, Italy from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and to Reykjavik-Keflavik, Iceland from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), further expanding its global footprint. It also announced new seasonal nonstop services beginning in summer 2019 between PHL and Dubrovnik, Croatia, Berlin, Germany and Bologna, Italy.
